She drove the car that killed a baby in Altamonte Springs last month. Police arrested her for DUI manslaughter

A 48-year-old woman who police say drove into a family of three last month in Altamonte Springs was arrested Friday on DUI manslaughter and other charges after blood tests detected several substances in her system.

Shona Wallace, of Sanford, was under the influence of cocaine, fentanyl and other drugs when she killed a 17-month-old girl June 2 after veering off State Road 414 past Eden Park Road, the Altamonte Springs Police Department said in a statement.

Her parents, who survived the crash but suffered serious injuries, decided to take a bike ride that night with the baby, who was riding in a bicycle trailer. They were riding on the sidewalk when police said Wallace lost control of the car and crashed into them.

The father is still in critical condition while her mother, who was since released from the hospital, is currently in a wheelchair. The names of the victims were not released.

Among Wallace’s other charges are DUI with serious bodily injury, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She’s being held at Seminole County Jail without bond.

Witnesses at the time of the accident said they saw Wallace swerving in and out of traffic along State Road 414 toward Orange Blossom Trail.

Among Wallace’s other charges are DUI with serious bodily injury, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She’s being held at Seminole County Jail without bond.

“The victims and the families of this tragedy have been patient and cooperative throughout the investigative process,” police spokeswoman Evelyn Estevez said. “The Altamonte Springs Police Department extends our condolences as the family continues to grieve this loss and deal with the aftermath of the situation.”
